Lula
Lula
Lula, a compassionate and determined woman, moved from Mexico City to the remote community of Santa Juquila, following a profound calling. Her son told her he felt that God needed her in this village, and with that sense of purpose, she uprooted her life and arrived in an unfamiliar place. The community, largely Mixtec, was initially slow to trust her, and it took two years for Lula to build rapport and earn their respect. Today, she runs an elementary school from her front porch and a secondary school from her living room, making education accessible to 42 students in an area where schools are scarce.
Despite her tireless dedication, Lula faces challenges. Space is running out, and many children in the community must balance both work and schooling. Yet, her passion for education never wavers. Lula has become a vital part of the community, offering opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach for these children. Her dream is to build a proper school to provide the room and resources her growing student body needs.
Teaching Amor shares Lula’s vision of expanding her school and is working alongside her to make it a reality. Lula is currently searching for property that could serve as the foundation for the new school. With the help of Teaching Amor, the goal is to build a school and create a space that can accommodate all the children who dream of attending, ensuring that no child is turned away due to lack of space.
